LOOKING AT THE WEATHER
----------------------------------------------------------------
The National Forest Service, admittedly, was poised with their
"finger on the button" to impose restrictions on camping in the
Sacramento Mountains because of dry conditions, but they have
decided to belay that action and allow regular rules for camping
and the use of campfires. We had three snow storms during the
month of March...our first measurable moisture since December.
Combined with mild temperatures in between the snows, we are
beginning to see some greening and the return of warm weather
wildlife. Temperatures in April usually range from lows in the
mid thirties to highs in the upper 60s. Should the Forest Service
decide to impose restrictions, their first level of restriction
would be to limit campfires to designated campgrounds. No trails
or recreation areas would be closed. No restrictions are
anticipated for the summer at this time.

VILLAGE POLITICS
----------------------------------------------------------------
An incumbent village councilor was re-elected to the Cloudcroft
Village council in March and a new member was elected. Gary Wood,
owner of The Mountain Monthly newspaper, was re-elected and Brad
Rasch was elected to his first term on the body. A write-in
campaign by Mary Wilson fell 2 votes short. Ron Todd ran
unopposed and was elected to the Municipal Judgeship.

INSIDE THE SHOP -- MOUNTAINTOP MERCANTILE
----------------------------------------------------------------
Visitors and locals alike often shop the shelves of Mountaintop
Mercantile...Cloudcroft’s full-service grocery store. Many are
unaware, though, that Mountaintop Mercantile also has its own
line of food products from Spaghetti sauce to salad dressing.
These popular products will soon be made available on-line at
www.mountaintop-foods.com.

CLOUDCROFT ONLINE SPOTLIGHT -- CLOC
----------------------------------------------------------------
It is called The Cloudcroft Light Opera Company...or CLOC for
short. Since it’s inception in 1991, this group of local
Thespians has entertained audiences with their performances of
melodrama and Vaudeville productions. Their next production will
be presented in early May during Mayfair festivities. In 1998,
with funds generated by CLOC and the Village of Cloudcroft,
the group found a permanent home in the open-air pavilion near
Zenith Park. CLOC also performs for regular Murder Mystery
weekends at the Cloudcroft Lodge.
